Supplier Stories

Julio Giddings, a noted agronomist and blueberry grower from Chile, discovered that the Mexican state of Michoacán had ideal conditions for growing blackberries, especially when it was too cold and dark to grow them in the United States. Julio started blackberry growing operations in Michoacán, and with the support of Sun Belle Inc., founded Sun Belle Mexico: a grower, shipper, and packer of blackberries that has provided support, know-how, training, and markets for thousands of Mexican farmers. Together, the Sun Belle companies chose to commit to the Tupy variety of blackberries, a blackberry hybrid developed in Brazil using traditional methods that typically produce large, juicy, and sweet berries. Though the Tupy yields fewer berries per plant than alternatives, Sun Belle is committed to quality above all else.
